Town Board Special Informational Meeting

RE: Meeting with the East Lamartine Drive and nearby Residents to discuss options for repairing East Lamartine Drive

Present at this meeting were Chairman Ed Montsma, Supervisors—Mike Suprenand, and Frank Bartzen, Clerk—Jill Randall and Treasurer Greg Michels.

With all notices having been properly posted, Ed called this Special Informational Town Board Meeting to order stating that the purpose of this meeting was to meet with the residents of East Lamartine Drive and nearby residents regarding the options available for roadwork to be done on East Lamartine Drive.

Ed explained that the town had budgeted $45,000 in 2006 to do roadwork on East Lamartine Drive. The town had this road cored and discovered that old Highway 151 cement was under the current blacktop. The cement was breaking up and causing humps in the road. The following four options were addressed.

1. Tear out the current asphalt and the old cement and create a complete new roadbed and road.
2. Grind, the current layers of asphalt off to the concrete and put new blacktop on top of the old concrete.
3. Northeast Asphalt representative, Dan Mueller offered yet another option. He explained that there is a company that does a procedure called rubblizing. The asphalt is milled off and the old cement is then beat and pounded by a machine until it is like gravel. Gravel can then be added if necessary and the road would then be ready to surface.
4. Grind off the humps in the road and re-blacktop the road.

Discussion took place regarding how long the road would last, price of the procedures, adding/replacing culverts, the height of the road etc.

Area residents offered opinions and suggestions to the board. Concern was addressed regarding the 35 mph speed limit and that there are people who speed on this road. One end of East Lamartine Drive is in need of a speed limit sign. Another resident suggested that the town do something to keep the semi traffic off of this road and asked what has happened to the weight restriction limit signs that used to be on this road.

Ed thanked everyone for coming and stated that the board would decide what was going to be done with East Lamartine Drive including the possibility of putting off the roadwork entirely until next year at the March Town Board Meeting.

With no further business to discuss, Frank made a motion seconded by Mike to adjourn this special informational meeting. Motion carried 3-0.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10 Pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jill Randall, Municipal Clerk
